WORK SMARTER ◊ SCHEDULING YOUR WORK FOR HAPPIER LIFES

free-planner-printable-OY!-blog

This last days had been of organization in all aspects, from things in place and managing time. Im a believer in having things organize will lead to happier lifes. For a couple of months I've been struggling to find the perfect balance of things, for managing working activities to have more time to enjoy. Before i normally was struggling on what to post in social media, what to talk about on the blog, and not accomplish dates dues for seasons among other things that created anxiety. So i decided besides making a planner for each social media, and activities, some folders with labels for each project so i could place future ideas in there and leave only priorities in the planner sheets. So besides i now can know what i have to do and plan it, i can have content and ideas for social media and not get stuck in what is next and to do, and at the same time leave time for important things in life and enjoy what i do.

In the past i would rather use a to do list like this one i share before here, but i always ended changing it or adding more and more activities creating chaos and unbalancing my life. When you have a brand or any company nothing will be enjoyed if you don't count with organization. I hope this new sheet can help me to find that balance I'm looking for, and hope it will help you too. Im sharing it in this link. I printed some and put titles and dates on the top to all projects (blog, social media, activities) and on the left side i will write dates of the week to work, also the dates of the week in every blank space from sunday to saturday.

COMMUNITY IMPORTANCE ◊ GUEST POST

6.6.14

community
______________________
Nows turn is for Tara Victoria designer & photographer whos pretty blog goes from inspiration and creative challenges, she will talk about the importance of communities in blogging and business. So i leave her to you.

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about the importance of community reaching out to fellow bloggers and creatives to let them know they're not alone, though many of us sometimes feel that this creative path we are on has to be ours and ours alone. The responses were beyond what I had imagined and truly amazing. I was blown away. You see, so many of us bear our creative struggles all on our own, but a defining moment in any creative's journey is when you accept you're not alone and that your struggles are our struggles. Taking a leap to start a small business or a blog is huge all in it's own, but thinking that you're in it completely by yourself can make those risks seem unobtainable.

A huge lesson that college taught me was that there are so many things about business, design, creative blocks, process, (you name it) we all have yet to learn and yet some of our unlearnt lessons, might be things other's have already been taught and vice versa. By collaborating and communicating with those around us we can teach and help one another. Being part of a community is a give and take relationship that everyone can contribute to. That's why it pains me so to see folks thinking they can't reach out. Accepting other's help can be one of the biggest growth factors personally and professionally. If you have an issue with your business or a question about your blog, seek your answer within the community and I guarantee you will get it.

Not only can community help with unanswered questions, but it is a great way to promote and grow your business or blog. Social media gives us the ability to do so in seconds and when people like what they see or read, they share it. In return we can do the same for others. This is part of the give and take. I've also seen this community come together during times of personal struggles. Loss of a loved one, a breakup, unemployment, or just needing someone to mull things over with. I've seen the support system it can be and I have been blown away by it time and time again. By putting yourself out there you're allowing the possibility of strong friendships that are not only willing to help you professionally but as a person as well.

The possibilities in community are endless and the importance, powerful. I think this quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe puts it best "The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities; but to know someone who things and feels with us, and who though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden."

5 TIPS TO START A SUCCESSFUL WEB SHOP ◊ GUEST POST

4.6.14

tips-to-start-a-successful-web-shop
_____________________________________
Todays guest post owner at Sketch-Inc Becky, which creates super fun designs hand painted and also unique prints that sales on her web shop gives us some tips on how to start a successful online shop. Without much ado...

Whether you are creating and selling your own products or a retailer selling multiple brands these 5 beginners tips are universally true.
With so many people now selling online the need to standout is ever more important. Before taking the leap into the world of online selling here are a few tips to get you started. NB: You may want to grab a coffee first! My attempts to keep this short were an epic fail!

1. WE ARE UNIQUE
How are you different?

Celebrate how unique your shop is. Try researching the products you plan to sell.
Are they unique? What makes them different from similar brands? Are they Organic? Handmade? Made locally? Are you the exclusive retailer of a brand in your country? Why have you created your shop and what are you offering?...
Example 1: ‘ SHOP NAME ’ sources only the best Nordic inspired design from the world’s most inspiring creatives straight to your doorstep.’
Example 2: ‘SHOP NAME’ is home to ‘YOUR NAME’ imaginative handmade world . Where illustration jumps from the page and reimagined as lovingly designed soft toys for kids and grown-ups alike’                                            Identify your brand!
The easiest way to be remembered or found on a marketplace site is through photography and styling. Bright beautifully styled or simply shot photos will always standout in a google image search or even Etsy. If you are creating your own stand alone web shop simply sketch up some ideas on how you would like your shop to appear (Logo, fonts, imagery, category names, graphics) and ask yourself if it reflects the style of your brand and what you are trying to say.
One of my favorite web shops stocks products you can find at many other online stores. Their layout and overall design is very simple but every product is photographed in their own particular style and they never use the brand’s stock images. Their product descriptions are informed and tell you why they love them. As a result the mixture of brands feels like one person has selected them and gives you examples of how they can look together in your home.

2. KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER
Who will your customers be…

What does he/she do for a living? Their annual wage? Where do they shop? What are their interests? Do they have children? Are they students? What is their expendable income every month? Which social networks would they use?….etc?
This is true of any salesman. Once you have your ideal customer in mind and the type and price of products they are likely to purchase you can research how those products are displayed online and learn from your competitors, improve on what is already available or introduce something completely new to a hungry audience.

3. START SMALL
Creating your first online shop is a risk, and although mistakes can be a valuable learning curve it’s much easier to minimize them where you can.
By starting with a small range of products you can reduce the risk and focus on perfecting those products for sale. Discovering what works well takes time and will take at least a year before you know your sales trends.

4. PRICE IT RIGHT
If you are a MAKER don’t underestimate your workmanship!. If a product is unique to you and can not be found elsewhere you hold the cards on pricing you are only restricted by how much your customer is prepared to spend.
If you are a RETAILER know your competition online.
We’ve all done it! I’ve found a fantastic product in one shop and then googled it to find the lowest price elsewhere.
There are two ways to combat the window shopper.
1. Exclude the brand’s name in your listing. This will hinder shoppers searching for a cheaper offer.
2. Offer a better deal / service / free gift wrapping etc.
But wait!...there is one more pricing strategy in your arsenal!!!!
SHIPPING COSTS!
Many customers will search online for the cheapest price only to find that the shipping costs are higher than the savings they were hoping for.
I would never suggest under pricing your shipping costs but they should be as accurate as possible and not additional revenue to the order.
Business accounts with shipping companies can offer fantastic discounts both at home and worldwide.

5. SOCIALISE
The cheapest form of advertising is…word of mouth!
This is where social networking becomes the life blood of any small business and particularly the web shop. If someone is prepared to shop online they are far more likely to actively use social networks.
Social networking is the perfect tool to celebrate your unique shoppers experience.
Instagram is perhaps the best example of this where happy customers can tag you with an image of their well-received product and advertise their purchase to their friends (the modern day word of mouth). Your photo feed can show the creative process in action, stylized products, snaps of home life with your products and even promote your brand image in your photography style.
Social networks offer customers the chance to ask questions and interact with the people behind the brand they love and thus create a loyal following.
I hope these tips have been helpful and have inspired those entrepreneurs amongst you. Selling online is hugely satisfying and the flexible hours aren’t bad either. I now find it hard to imagine working anywhere else.

Thank you so much Carol for inviting me.
